GREGORY RICK // Active Shooter at Our Baptism // 11.14.24 – 1.5.25
Our second show at our NYC location, Gregory Rick Active Shooter at Our Baptism

In the Artist’s Words:
“This survey of my recent work is a mashup, of resistance, violence, Our story and myth. An exploration of power dynamics and the spiritual, all under the umbrella of love and hope. I’m concerned with the magical and unseen worlds of the historic myth and the possibilities of “what if”. My pictures are loaded with archetypes and symbols summoned to interrogate history and to change certain historical moments of importance. The fusing of the internal and the historical captivates me. I think a lot about The Book of Revelations and illustrations of that story. Although likely referring to the coming judgment and fall of the Roman Empire back then, it can also be interpreted in many other ways. Indeed, Revelations has been resonant in all tumultuous times since its inception. I’m looking at humanity, past and present through the window of Revelations. My revelations counters rigidity and entrenched thinking with nuance, hope and images of alternative freedoms. Some of the important themes in the work include separation w/ unity, majority w/ minority, the lumpen w/ the have nots — a ceremonial reinvestigation of power and transcendence, where the personal and political unite. I’m poking and prodding the Myth while acknowledging the active shooter who is always near, even at our baptism.” — Gregory Rick
